How PetSafe® Underground Fence Systems Work
Boundary Wire Installation
We bury a durable wire around the perimeter of your property at the depth that's right for your yard. The wire can follow property lines, go through wooded areas, cross driveways, and navigate complex terrain — creating an invisible boundary that matches your actual property.
Transmitter Setup
A small transmitter unit is installed inside your home or garage and connected to the boundary wire. It sends a continuous radio signal through the wire, creating a safe "warning zone" that surrounds the property. The transmitter is simple to use and easy to adjust.
Receiver Collar Fitting
Your dog wears a lightweight PetSafe® receiver collar that detects the radio signal from the boundary wire. When your dog approaches the boundary, the collar first emits a warning beep, then delivers a safe, customizable static correction if they continue toward the boundary.
Training Your Dog
The training process is an essential part of the system's success. We'll walk you through the proper training method using boundary flags, leash guidance, and positive reinforcement. Most dogs learn the boundary within a few weeks. We stay with you until you're confident.
